The Kutchery Chowk remodeling project in Rawalpindi is expected to open for traffic next week, with authorities likely to make the intersection signal-free through newly constructed flyovers and underpasses.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam said the project is expected to become operational on Tuesday next week, bringing relief to thousands of commuters affected since construction began in November 2025.
During the construction period, traffic was diverted to alternate roads, causing delays, increased fuel consumption, vehicle repair costs and dust-related issues around the district courts and Police Lines headquarters.
CTO Farhan Aslam said traffic flow at Kutchery Chowk would improve significantly after the opening, especially for commuters regularly using the intersection.
He added that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to inaugurate the project next week.
Authorities have also completed a pedestrian bridge connecting the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) building with the district courts gate on Jhelum Road, along with another pedestrian bridge linking Fatima Jinnah Women University to the Adiala Road bus stand.
According to officials, more than 250,000 vehicles are expected to pass through Kutchery Chowk daily without traffic signals or major congestion after the project becomes operational.
