The Punjab government has approved an increase in the number of body cameras and panic buttons for Punjab Police, raising the total cost of the equipment to Rs. 3.0525 billion.
Under the revised plan, the number of body cameras will increase from the previously approved 17,812 to 30,000, while panic buttons will rise from 1,096 to 1,500.
This adds 12,188 body cameras and 404 panic buttons to the original procurement plan and will require an additional Rs. 1.2124 billion.
Each body camera has been priced at Rs. 95,000, while the cost of each panic button has been set at Rs. 135,000.
The Finance Department has proposed covering half of the required amount through 13 percent of the licensing fees collected by the Traffic Police.
