Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered authorities to accelerate the implementation of the Model Village Project and address drainage and sewerage problems in rural areas across the province. Chairing a special meeting to review the project, the chief minister was briefed on development work underway in more than 3,500 villages, where authorities are developing sewerage and drainage systems and constructing brick-paved streets.

The meeting approved the introduction of community-based organizations under the Model Village Project. It also decided to involve assistant commissioners, community health mobilizers, Union Council secretaries, headmasters and other relevant stakeholders in rural development initiatives.

The meeting assigned members of the provincial assembly responsibility for monitoring development projects in their respective areas.

Maryam directed authorities to resolve drainage and sewerage issues on a priority basis and ensure that village streets receive proper paving and beautification.
