Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered a ban on excavation and other damage to newly constructed roads, directing departments to coordinate their work and prevent repeated digging.
During a meeting on Monday to review own source revenue development projects, the chief minister ordered officials to keep manholes and sewerage covers level with road surfaces and install proper drainage, signage and lane markings on new roads.
She also barred departments from collecting charges from shopkeepers without prior approval and directed officials to set separate timelines for development projects.
The chief minister approved own source revenue schemes in Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad. The projects include road construction and widening, resurfacing, footpaths, drainage, sewerage, beautification, sports facilities and solarization of disposal stations.
In Lahore, she approved beautification projects for 10 roads, including Egerton Road, Lytton Road, Davis Road, Lower Mall, Lawrence Road, Queen’s Road and Bank Road. The plans also include beautification of Lakshmi Chowk and the Orange Line track along Multan Road through cleaning, plantation and mural painting.
She also approved rural road projects in Lahore and schemes for roads, solar streetlights and beautification in Kasur. Five sewerage, pumping station and road projects were also approved in Sheikhupura.
