The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has warned of possible urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides as the fourth spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 5.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, water levels in most rivers across Punjab have returned to normal. The flow at all barrages on the Chenab River and all headworks on the Ravi River is currently within normal limits.
Water flow in the Jhelum and Sutlej rivers also remains normal. However, low-level flooding has been reported in the Indus River at Kalabagh, where the inflow stands at 331,000 cusecs and the outflow at 323,000 cusecs.
The Indus River is flowing normally at Tarbela, Chashma, and Taunsa, while the situation in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan is also under control.
Low-level flooding has been reported in Nala Aik and Baein, while the Nala Palkhu near Wazirabad is experiencing a medium-level flood.
PDMA Punjab Director General Saif Anwar Jappa said rainfall in the upper catchment areas could increase water levels in eastern rivers and their connected streams. Seasonal waterways may also experience flash flooding.
The authority has warned of urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan. Murree, Galyat, and other mountainous areas may also face landslides.
People living within riverbeds have been directed to immediately move to safer locations.
The Punjab government has established flood relief camps in affected areas, where essential facilities and medicines will be provided.
Residents have been advised to follow safety instructions and avoid visiting rivers, canals, streams, and seasonal waterways for recreational activities. Parents have also been urged to closely supervise children and prevent them from swimming in rivers and streams.
