The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert for urban flooding and landslides as the province braces for the eighth spell of monsoon rains from today until September 5.

According to the PDMA, most districts of Punjab are expected to receive rain during the period, with several areas likely to experience heavy rainfall.

The authority has specifically warned of urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sialkot, while Murree and Galiyat face a heightened risk of landslides due to their mountainous terrain.

Rain is also forecast in Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Wazirabad, Hafizabad, Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, and Noorpur Thal.

Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, and Pakpattan are also expected to receive rainfall during the spell.

PDMA Director General Syed Inam Anwar Jappa has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab to remain alert and ensure that district administrations take precautionary measures ahead of the expected rainfall.

He said major cities should remain prepared for urban flooding, while flash flooding may also occur in seasonal streams and nullahs.

The PDMA has also alerted the Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government and Livestock departments to ensure preparedness during the monsoon spell.

The authority advised citizens to avoid staying in dilapidated or mud-built houses and refrain from unnecessary travel during storms. People have also been urged to seek shelter in safe places during thunderstorms and lightning.

Parents have been advised to keep children away from accumulated rainwater, electric poles and exposed power lines. Citizens should also avoid open areas during thunderstorms.

The PDMA said its 1129 helpline is available for citizens requiring assistance during any emergency.
