The Punjab government has implemented the Punjab Transport Policy 2026, introducing new limits on the use of official vehicles and fuel allowances for police officers across the province.

Under the new policy, authorities have also ordered the retrieval of all surplus government vehicles from police officers and directed that vehicles currently being used for various departmental projects be returned to their respective departments.

According to an official directive issued by the DIG Telecommunication and Transport, all relevant police authorities, including the SSP Motor Transport (MT), have been instructed to implement the new transport policy with immediate effect.

Under the policy, the Inspector General (IG) Punjab will be entitled to one 2,800cc official vehicle along with 500 liters of fuel for official use. For official visits to other cities, the IG will be allowed to use a 4,700cc vehicle and receive additional fuel according to the requirements of the visit.

The IG will also be provided with one 1,800cc vehicle for personal use, along with 300 liters of fuel.

Additional Inspectors General (Grade 21) will receive a 1,800cc vehicle and 250 liters of fuel for personal use, while a 2,800cc vehicle will be available for official travel.

Deputy Inspectors General (Grade 20) will be entitled to a 1,500cc official vehicle and 250 liters of fuel.

The policy also sets vehicle and fuel entitlements for Regional Police Officers (Grades 19-20), District Police Officers (Grades 18-19), Senior Superintendents of Police (Grade 19), Superintendents of Police (Grade 18), and Deputy Superintendents of Police (Grade 17), with fuel allocations to be provided in accordance with limits approved by the Finance Department.

Senior Superintendents of Police (Grade 18) will receive a 1,500cc official vehicle along with 200 liters of fuel.

The Punjab government has also directed all police officers to surrender any additional government vehicles beyond their authorized entitlement.

Furthermore, vehicles assigned to various police department projects will be returned to their respective departments as part of efforts to streamline the official vehicle fleet.

The new transport policy also formally enforces fuel consumption limits for officers, aiming to standardize the use of government vehicles and improve oversight of transport-related expenditures within the Punjab Police.
