Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to install safety nets beneath manhole covers across the province to prevent accidents and improve public safety.
The polyester-strip safety nets will be fixed inside manholes, gutters and drainage systems. A pilot project has already been launched in Gujranwala, where nets will be installed on 30,000 manholes.
The directive was issued during a meeting chaired by the chief minister to review ongoing development projects across Punjab. Divisional commissioners briefed her on progress through video link.
Maryam Nawaz also ordered the early completion of road projects and directed officials to ensure uniform-style signboards on all roads. She further instructed authorities to improve the look of bazaars and markets through uniform shopfront colors, matching shutter schemes and wall-mounted planters in narrow commercial areas.
The chief minister also announced that Taxila’s main bazaar would be developed into a heritage street.
During the meeting, officials shared updates on multiple projects in Gujranwala Division, including roads, parks, commercial areas, flower markets and a zoo. Traffic signals will be installed at nine busy points in Gujranwala, while streetlights will be added on Nowshera Road and Eminabad Road.
Several road and public space projects were also approved for Wazirabad, Kamoke, Nowshera Virkan, Gujrat, Sara-i-Alamgir, Mandi Bahauddin, Rawalpindi, Kotli Sattian and Jhelum.
In Rawalpindi, the chief minister directed authorities to complete beautification projects within three months.
