Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered authorities to strengthen the Suthra Punjab cleanliness program across the province, with a focus on housing societies, residential areas, roads and public spaces. Chairing a meeting, she directed authorities to ensure cleanliness in cooperative and private housing societies and introduce uniform dustbins and garbage bags in commercial areas. The chief minister directed teams to wash and clean major roads daily at 5 a.m. and ensure regular cleaning of streets and neighborhoods. She also ordered authorities to begin cleaning vacant plots and ensure door to door waste collection.

Maryam ordered that Suthra Punjab workers receive their salaries by the fifth of every month and directed authorities to clear outstanding payments to contractors. She ordered immediate action if salary payments face delays.

She also directed officials to improve cleanliness around schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, parks and green belts, while removing waste from areas around railway tracks and ensuring timely cleaning of city entry and exit points.

The chief minister ordered the formulation of standard operating procedures to assess sanitation performance and called for special attention to fruit and vegetable markets. She said contractors should receive 24 hours to address violations before authorities impose fines, stressing that the primary goal should remain cleanliness rather than penalties.
