Tecno has officially launched the Pova 8 Pro 5G, adding a more powerful model to its Pova 8 lineup. The new phone combines a 1.5K 144Hz AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chipset, a dedicated gaming graphics chip, and a 6,500mAh battery. The phone stands out thanks to its secondary Active Matrix display on the back, which can show quick heads-up information such as time and date, notifications, and more.

The Pova 8 Pro 5G has what Tecno calls an “Interstellar Spaceship” design. The rear panel features a triangular camera module with an Alive Matrix display built into the module. The small dot-matrix screen can be customized to show different information and visual effects.

The phone measures 162.48 x 77.27 x 7.39mm and weighs 189 grams. It is available in Arc White, Graphite Black, and Tundra Green.

At the front is a 6.78-inch HyperLux AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution of 2644 x 1208 pixels. The panel supports a 144Hz refresh rate, up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness, 1,600 nits of high-brightness mode, and 2,800Hz touch sampling.

The screen has 429 PPI, supports 1.07 billion colors, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Tecno also includes 2,592Hz PWM dimming and wet- and oily-finger touch recognition.

The phone carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. Other design features include an in-display fingerprint scanner and an infrared remote control.

The Pova 8 Pro 5G is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Ultimate 5G chipset. The 4nm chip uses an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.6GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 2.0GHz.

Tecno has paired the processor with its dedicated P1 graphics chip. The company says the chip can enable gaming at up to 144 frames per second in supported titles. RPG games can reach up to 90fps, while supported FPS and MOBA games can reach 144fps.

Tecno also claims an AnTuTu score of more than 1 million for the phone. The P1 chip is designed to provide additional graphics processing and frame-generation capabilities for supported games.

The phone runs HiOS 16 based on Android 16. Tecno promises two major Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates. The company’s Ella AI assistant is also included.

Storage options include 256GB and 512GB, while RAM configurations start at 8GB and go up to 12GB. Tecno also uses extended RAM to provide up to 24GB of combined physical and virtual RAM.

For cooling, the Pova 8 Pro 5G has a 5,000-square-millimeter vapor chamber. The phone also supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC.

Audio features include stereo speakers tuned for Dolby Atmos, 4D gaming vibration and Hi-Res Audio support through wired and wireless connections.

The rear camera system consists of a 50MP main camera using Sony’s LYTIA 700C sensor. The main camera supports optical image stabilization for improved stability when taking photos and videos.

It is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide camera. The rear camera module also houses the Alive Matrix display.

For selfies and video calls, the phone has a 13MP front-facing camera.

The Pova 8 Pro 5G packs a 6,500mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging.

Tecno also includes bypass charging, which can route power directly to the phone during supported gaming sessions instead of continuously charging the battery. The phone supports 10W reverse wired charging as well.

Tecno says the battery is designed to retain at least 80% of its capacity after 2,000 complete charging cycles under the company’s laboratory testing conditions. The company equates this to around six years of use based on its test assumptions.

Tecno has not announced pricing details as of yet.

The standard phone comes in 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB configurations. Tecno is also offering a limited Tonino Lamborghini Edition in black. Despite the branding, Tecno notes that this edition does not have a direct commercial relationship with the carmaker. Its main difference from the standard model is the exclusive design, while the storage options remain the same.

Since Tecno is a highly popular brand in Pakistan, there is a chance that the Pova 8 Pro will arrive in the local market as well, though there is no official word from Tecno as of yet.
