Some Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra owners are reporting severe battery drain and overheating after installing the July 2026 security update.
Complaints posted on Samsung’s Community forum say the problems began immediately after the update. However, the issue does not appear to affect every device, and Samsung has not officially acknowledged it.
One Galaxy S25 Ultra owner said their battery dropped from around 85% at midnight to almost 5% by midday, despite recording only about two hours of screen time.
The user claimed the phone was losing between 5% and 7% battery every hour while sitting idle. Other users reported that their phones became unusually hot alongside the faster battery drain.
Similar complaints have appeared from Galaxy S24 Ultra users. One owner said the phone could no longer last a full day under the same usage pattern as before the update. Some reports also mentioned the Galaxy S24 Plus and slower charging speeds.
Affected users said they had tried common troubleshooting steps without success and had submitted diagnostic logs and other details to Samsung.
Android Central reported that its Galaxy S25 Ultra continued to deliver normal battery life after receiving the July update, suggesting the problem may affect only some devices or configurations.
Samsung has not confirmed what is causing the reported drain or whether a software fix is being prepared.
The Galaxy S25 Plus and S25 Ultra previously faced a separate charging problem involving Samsung’s 45W adapter and 5A cable. Some phones charged slowly, failed to charge, or displayed a charging indicator after being unplugged. Samsung later said a software patch would address that issue.
