Redmi has quietly introduced the Redmi 17 5G as its latest budget smartphone. The phone is expected to reach Pakistan later, though there is no confirmed launch date as of yet.
The Chinese Redmi 17 5G appears to be a rebranded Redmi A7 Pro, which is already available in Pakistan for Rs. 33,000. The only difference between the two phones is a slightly different Unisoc chipset and a battery capacity gap of only 300mAh.
The Redmi 17 5G features a 6.9-inch LCD with a waterdrop notch and an HD+ resolution of 1600 × 720 pixels. The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz.
The display also offers DC dimming, up to 800 nits of global peak brightness, and TÜV Rheinland triple eye-protection certification. Wet Touch 2.0 improves screen responsiveness when users operate the phone with wet fingers.
The device measures 171.56 × 79.47 × 8.15mm and weighs 210 grams. Redmi offers it in Cold Mist Blue, Star Rock Black and Feather Mist White.
The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The Redmi 17 5G runs on the 6nm Unisoc T8300 chipset. Its octa-core processor reaches a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz.
The phone comes with either 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Both configurations include 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Users can also expand the storage through a dedicated microSD card slot.
It ships with Xiaomi HyperOS 3. Connectivity features include 5G, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.4.
The Redmi 17 5G includes a 13MP rear camera for photography and video recording.
An 8MP camera inside the waterdrop notch handles selfies and video calls.
The smartphone packs a 6,300mAh battery that Xiaomi says can maintain its health for up to four years.
It supports 15W wired charging, 7.5W reverse wired charging, and PD and QC charging protocols.
The 4GB RAM and 128GB storage model costs around $150. The 6GB RAM and 128GB storage version is priced at approximately $180.
The Redmi 17 5G is now on sale in China and is expected to arrive in Pakistan later, as previous Redmi models have. However, leaks indicate that the international version may offer a different design and specifications.
