September 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest smartphone launch months in years, with more than 20 new phones expected from Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, Vivo, Oppo, Honor, iQOO and other brands.

Several factors are contributing to the crowded schedule. Apple is preparing its high-end iPhone launch alongside its first foldable device, Huawei has moved its Mate series forward from its usual November window, and new flagship chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek are pushing Android manufacturers to launch their latest devices as quickly as possible.

Many of these phones will initially launch only in China, but several are also expected to reach international markets.

Apple has scheduled its event for September 9, with the iPhone 18 Pro , iPhone 18 Pro Max and the company’s first foldable iPhone expected to take center stage.

The Pro models are tipped to retain their 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays while moving to the 2nm A20 Pro chipset, 12GB RAM and Apple’s own C2 modem.

Apple is also reportedly shrinking the Dynamic Island by moving more Face ID hardware beneath the display.

The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and 5.3-inch cover screen, with a titanium and aluminum body.

Rumors suggest Apple could replace Face ID with Touch ID integrated into the power button. The foldable may also use a dual rear camera setup without a telephoto lens despite an expected price above $2,000.

Xiaomi has an unusually busy September planned.

The company is expected to introduce the Xiaomi 18 Fold early in the month with its in-house Xring O3 processor and next-generation LPDDR6 memory.

The foldable is tipped to feature a 7.6-inch display, 6,000mAh battery, 67W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and a 200MP main camera.

It is expected to launch alongside the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, which reportedly uses the same chipset.

Later in September, Xiaomi is expected to introduce the Xiaomi 18 series powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 platform.

The higher-end models could feature dual 200MP SmartSens cameras and a dedicated AI button.

Global versions of the Xiaomi 18 and 18 Pro have already received certification in markets including Turkey, the EEA, Russia, Taiwan and Japan, suggesting a faster international rollout than previous generations.

Huawei has officially scheduled the Mate XT2 launch for September 7.

The device will be Huawei’s third tri-fold phone after the original Mate XT and last year’s Mate XTs refresh.

Pre-orders are already open in China with 16GB + 512GB, 16GB + 1TB, 16GB + 1TB with a privacy display, and 16GB + 2TB with a privacy display and stylus.

The first three versions are available in Obsidian Black, White, and Purple, while the highest-end model comes only in Purple.

The Mate XT2 could use a Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, pack a battery exceeding 6,000mAh, and feature a redesigned hinge intended to reduce the crease across its 10.2-inch unfolded display.

Huawei is expected to launch the Mate XT2 and Mate 90 series at separate events rather than combining both product families.

Huawei’s Mate 90 series is also expected in September, considerably earlier than the Mate lineup’s traditional November launch window.

The next Kirin processor is reportedly using a new “Tau” design approach that could increase transistor density by more than 50%.

The Mate 90 Pro Max is tipped to feature dual periscope telephoto cameras, including one offering 10x optical zoom. Huawei has not offered a similar setup since the P40 Pro+ .

Battery capacities on the Pro Max and RS models could range between 6,800mAh and 7,000mAh, while the display could be a 6.9-inch Tandem OLED panel.

The iQOO 16 series is expected to continue the brand’s focus on flagship performance.

It is tipped to feature a 6.85-inch Samsung-made flat 2K display with a 165Hz refresh rate, paired with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.

Camera hardware could receive a significant upgrade this generation, with three 50MP rear cameras, including a 1/1.3-inch main sensor with an f/1.68 aperture.

Other expected features include Bose-tuned stereo speakers, an X-axis linear vibration motor, a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and IP68/IP69 protection.

iQOO could unveil the series alongside the iQOO Neo 12 and a new compact tablet near the end of September or in early October.

Vivo has confirmed that the X500 series will debut in China during September.

The X500 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature a Zeiss Super Dynamic main camera co-developed with Sony, offering a claimed 17EV of dynamic range.

Video capabilities include 4K 240fps slow motion and 4K 120fps HDR recording, while the camera system also uses 3-degree optical image stabilization with gimbal-level stabilization.

The Vivo X500 Pro Max is expected to feature a 6.85-inch 2K BOE Q11 panel, which would make it the first smartphone to use the display.

Vivo claims the new panel reduces motion blur while scrolling by 93% compared with the previous generation.

The standard X500 and X500 Pro are expected to use MediaTek Dimensity 9600-series processors, while the Pro Max could move to the Dimensity 9600 Pro.

Oppo is also expected to launch its Find X10 series in China this month.

Current leaks point to a lineup consisting of the Find X10, Find X10 Pro and Find X10 Pro Max, potentially joined by a smaller flagship model.

Higher-end models are reportedly being tested with dual 200MP rear cameras.

The standard Find X10 could use a Dimensity 9600-series processor and pack an 8,000mAh battery.

Oppo has not confirmed an exact launch date or pricing. International availability is expected to follow the Chinese launch later.

Honor has confirmed that the Magic9 series will launch on September 28 in Beijing, nearly a month earlier than the Magic8 series arrived last year.

One of its main features will be Honor’s continued collaboration with cinema-camera company ARRI.

The phones are expected to support native Log-C3 video encoding and LUT color grading.

The standard Magic9 could also introduce a square selfie camera, potentially making it the first Android smartphone to ship with this sensor format.

Higher-end models are tipped to feature a 200MP main camera with 3-degree OIS and a second 200MP periscope telephoto camera, along with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 hardware.

Battery capacity could exceed 7,500mAh on the standard model and approach 9,000mAh on the Pro, using Honor’s silicon-carbon battery technology.
