The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms and dust storms, at isolated places in parts of Sindh on June 1.

The forecast is expected to bring some relief after several days of intense heat across the province.

According to the PMD, severe heat conditions and westerly winds affecting northern parts of the country could trigger thunderstorms in Qambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Mirpurkhas and Tharparkar districts.

However, the department said heatwave conditions were still expected to continue across most districts of Sindh until Saturday.

The PMD said maximum temperatures in Kashmore, Khairpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad and Naushahro Feroze were expected to remain between 47°C and 50°C.

In Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro and Sanghar, temperatures were forecast to reach between 44°C and 47°C.

Karachi is also expected to remain hot and humid over the next three days, with daytime temperatures likely to stay between 35°C and 37°C.

The PMD said humidity in Karachi could reach around 80 percent in the morning and 70 percent in the evening. Southwesterly sea breezes are expected to remain fully active in the city during the coming days.

On Thursday, Dadu set a new heat record, breaking its 10-year temperature record during the ongoing intense heat.

According to the PMD, Dadu had previously recorded a maximum temperature of 51.4°C on May 18, 2016. On Thursday, the city recorded 51.5°C.

The recorded temperature was 4.5°C above the May average. Larkana and Jacobabad also recorded temperatures of 50.5°C on the same day.
