The Punjab government has approved the transfer of 15,884 pending complaints involving alleged illegal occupation of properties to newly established property tribunals across the province. They will now be transferred to the relevant property tribunals along with their complete records.

Citizens who had already filed complaints under the previous system will not need to submit fresh applications. The tribunals will continue proceedings on the existing cases under the amended law.

Punjab Advocate General has declared the transfer legally valid and workable.

Under the amended law, complaints involving illegal possession of property will now be dealt with by property tribunals instead of being primarily handled by deputy commissioners.

The decision follows guidance from the Lahore High Court regarding the handling of pending complaints after changes to the law. The provincial government can formally transfer the cases under Section 26, allowing the tribunals to reconsider them under the revised legal framework.

The move is expected to shift thousands of unresolved property possession disputes to the new tribunal system without forcing complainants to restart the legal process.
