The Punjab government has completed the installation of surveillance cameras in all districts under the Safe Cities Project, significantly expanding the province’s digital security and monitoring infrastructure.

According to officials, cameras installed in 43 cities have now been integrated with the central monitoring system at the Punjab Safe Cities Authority headquarters.

Authorities said a total of 17,000 cameras have been deployed across Punjab, playing a key role in crime prevention, public safety monitoring, traffic management, and the e-challaning system.

The project was initiated during the tenure of former caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi and has now been completed across all districts under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Safe Cities officials announced that the next phase of the project is set to begin soon, with plans to install more than 10,000 additional cameras across 98 tehsils.

Authorities said the expansion will be completed at a significantly lower cost, reducing expenses by nearly 50 percent compared to previous phases.

In the final phase, the surveillance network will be extended to the union council level to further strengthen monitoring and security coverage across the province.

Officials also revealed that private surveillance cameras are being integrated into the Safe Cities network to broaden the scope of security monitoring and improve law enforcement capabilities.

Experts believe the expanded camera network will help curb crime, enhance public safety, improve traffic flow, and make the e-challaning system more efficient throughout Punjab.
