Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the construction of seven major hospitals in the Nawaz Sharif Medical City, a flagship healthcare project that will add 1,519 beds and several specialized medical facilities to the province’s health sector.
The approval was granted during a special meeting on public-private partnership projects, where officials reviewed 110 proposed development schemes across Punjab.
The chief minister also approved the establishment of Children’s Hospital-IV and the Institute of Surgical Orthopedics.
According to officials, the medical city will include a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Center, an Institute of Genetic and Blood Diseases, a Center of Excellence for Nursing and Midwifery, an Infectious Diseases Hospital, and an Institute of Ophthalmology.
The hospitals will be developed in phases as part of a long-term healthcare expansion plan.
The meeting also reviewed plans for student hostels, road infrastructure, trucking terminals, bus stands, model bazaars, and food street projects. Officials informed participants that four public-private partnership projects are already operational, while feasibility studies for 27 additional projects have been completed.
Other initiatives discussed included an FMD production plant in the Medical District, a Time Travel Park in Lahore, a shrimp farming project, and a Mines-to-Metals project in Chiniot.
Speaking at the meeting, Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government would continue its development agenda and expand collaboration with the private sector to accelerate economic growth and improve public services.
