Punjab’s flagship health programs, launched under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s administration, received no substantive funding in the provincial budget for fiscal year 2026-27, according to budget documents, 24News has claimed.

According to 24News, the documents show that no regular allocations have been proposed for several CM Special Health Initiatives, despite their combined estimated financial requirement of around Rs. 27.847 billion.

The programs include special initiatives for dialysis, organ transplantation, children’s cardiac surgery, cancer patients, and stroke treatment.

These schemes were introduced to provide free or subsidized treatment to low-income patients suffering from life-threatening conditions.

However, the budget documents show that only Rs. 600,000 have been allocated under the head of Chief Minister’s Special Health Initiatives for 2026-27. The amount is far below the projected funding needed to run the programs.

The absence of dedicated allocations has raised questions about how the government intends to finance these initiatives in the upcoming fiscal year. It remains unclear whether the necessary funds will be provided through supplementary grants, special packages, or other budgetary arrangements.

The provincial government has not yet publicly explained why the programs have not received substantive allocations in the proposed budget.

The Punjab Assembly is expected to debate the budget proposals in the coming days before the province’s spending plan for 2026-27 is formally approved.
