Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the launch of the Diaspora Doctor Locum Program (DDLP), under which overseas Pakistani and foreign specialist doctors will provide advanced medical services and perform complex surgeries at 12 public sector hospitals across the province.

The approval was granted during a special meeting of the Specialized Healthcare Department, where the chief minister also directed authorities to establish a dedicated dashboard and web portal for the program to streamline its operations.

Under the DDLP, experienced Pakistani and foreign specialist doctors will be engaged on short term assignments in Punjab’s public hospitals. Each participating overseas specialist will be allowed to perform up to eight advanced surgical procedures during their stay.

According to officials, overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals with specialist qualifications will be eligible for the program. Applicants must hold relevant postgraduate qualifications, have at least three years of overseas fellowship experience and possess a valid fitness certificate.

Participating doctors will be required to serve in Punjab for a minimum of 15 days. The online portal will handle registration, credential verification, appointments, payment processing, commitments and reporting.

The meeting was informed that international specialists participating in the initiative will also train local healthcare professionals. Maryam Nawaz further directed authorities to introduce a similar program for the nursing sector.
