The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) have raided an illegal mobile recharging operation in Gilgit and arrested one suspect.
The joint operation was conducted at a residential property behind NLI Market after authorities received information about SIMs being misused to remotely recharge mobile accounts and take advantage of the tax-exempt status of Gilgit-Baltistan.
During the raid, officials seized 75 mobile phones and 600 active SIM cards as evidence.
NCCIA has registered an FIR and launched a further investigation into the case.
PTA said the misuse of illegally issued SIMs violates telecom regulations, facilitates tax evasion and can cause losses to government revenue. The authority said it will continue working with law-enforcement agencies against illegal SIM issuance and misuse.
