The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory for northern and upper parts of the country, warning of rain, thunderstorms, possible flooding and landslides.

According to the NDMA, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in Islamabad, parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Hailstorms may also occur in some areas, potentially causing damage to vulnerable structures.

The authority warned that heavy rain could trigger landslides and glacial lake outburst floods in mountainous regions, leading to road blockages and travel disruptions.

Areas facing a high risk of landslides include Hunza, Nagar, Gilgit, Chilas, Astore, Shigar, Chitral, Kalam, Upper Kohistan and parts of AJK. Several link roads and major routes, including sections of the Karakoram Highway, Naran Road and Jaglot-Skardu Road, may be affected by adverse weather conditions.

The NDMA said travel could also be disrupted in tourist destinations such as Kalam, Kundol, Arang Kel, Dasu, Patan and the Chitral Valley.

Authorities in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK have been directed to remain on alert and take precautionary measures in vulnerable areas and along key highways.
