Huawei has unveiled the Pura X View in China, introducing an unusually wide display in a traditional non-folding smartphone.
The company describes the Pura X View as the world’s first “wide-screen candybar” smartphone and says it is “born for content.” The wider design is intended to provide more horizontal viewing space for videos, reading, gaming, and productivity.
The Huawei Pura X View features a 6.39-inch OLED display with an unusual 16:9.5 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2232 × 1320 pixels.
Despite its relatively modest diagonal size, Huawei says the display offers an area of 114.27 cm², allowing it to show more content than many conventional 6.9-inch smartphones because of its wider shape.
The screen reaches up to 6,500 nits of peak brightness and has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It also supports 2,160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
Huawei has reduced the bezels to just 1.05mm on all four sides, resulting in a claimed 96.1% screen-to-body ratio. The company describes this as the highest screen-to-body ratio for a straight-screen smartphone.
The Pura X View measures only 6.68mm thick and weighs 201 grams despite carrying a large battery.
At the back, Huawei uses three-dimensional grating glass with geometric patterns designed to create changing light and shadow effects. The cameras sit inside a wide racetrack-shaped module.
The phone comes in four colors: Leap Shadow Red, Linen Gray, Zero Degree White, and Phantom Night Black.
Huawei will offer the Pura X View with 12GB of RAM across all three configurations.
Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
The Pura X View will also be the first smartphone to launch with HarmonyOS 7.
Huawei has optimized the software for the wider screen, with dedicated experiences for watching videos, reading, gaming, and productivity. The wider 16:9.5 display is designed to reduce unused space when viewing conventional 16:9 video and provide more horizontal room for other content.
Huawei has not officially revealed the chipset yet.
However, a leak shared by WHYLAB claims the Pura X View will use Huawei’s Kirin 9030S processor. Earlier leaks had also pointed to a flagship-level Kirin 9-series chipset, but this information remains unofficial.
Huawei has not yet announced the complete camera specifications.
Images of the phone show a wide rear camera module, while reports indicate a triple-camera configuration.
Earlier leaks claimed the phone would feature a 50-megapixel triple-camera system with a periscope telephoto camera. However, Huawei has not confirmed the sensor specifications or telephoto hardware, so these details should still be treated as unofficial.
The Huawei Pura X View packs a large 7,000mAh battery while keeping its body at just 6.68mm thick and 201 grams.
Huawei has not yet revealed the phone’s charging speed.
Reservations opened in China on August 20 through Huawei’s online store and JD.com.
The phone will be available in three configurations:
Huawei plans to begin in-store demonstrations and pre-sales on August 28. Pricing has not yet been announced, while more complete specifications are also expected around the wider release.
Huawei has not announced international availability for the Pura X View.
The new device takes the wide-screen concept Huawei previously explored with its foldable Pura X lineup and moves it into a conventional non-folding design. Instead of making the phone taller, Huawei has increased its horizontal display area, creating a form factor that sits somewhere between a traditional smartphone and the wider screen experience offered by foldables.
