Drivers working for the electric bus service operated under the Capital Development Authority (CDA) staged a protest in Islamabad, demanding higher salaries and improved employment benefits.
The protesters gathered to voice concerns over what they described as inadequate compensation despite serving for nearly two years.
According to the protesting drivers, their salaries have remained unchanged since they were hired, and no annual bonuses have been provided during this period.
They stated that the current monthly salary of Rs. 38,000 is insufficient to meet rising living expenses amid ongoing inflation, leaving many employees under severe financial pressure.
The drivers further claimed that the administration had promised medical facilities and additional benefits at the time of recruitment. However, they alleged that these commitments have not yet been fulfilled. Protesters also emphasized that despite holding PSP licenses and performing demanding duties, their concerns continue to be ignored by the relevant authorities.
During the demonstration, the employees urged the government and concerned departments to immediately increase salaries, provide annual bonuses, and ensure medical facilities according to the terms of their employment agreements. They said these measures are necessary to provide relief to workers struggling with economic hardships.
Officials from the CDA responded by stating that the electric bus service is being operated through a third-party contractor.
According to CDA authorities, the organization pays the company based on kilometers covered, while decisions regarding driver salaries are the responsibility of the contracting company. Officials maintained that the CDA has no direct involvement in determining employee wages.
