The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has received bids below the estimated cost for all five of its major road projects, with officials crediting strong competition among construction firms for the lower prices.
The authority received a bid 13 percent below the estimated Rs. 6 billion cost for the construction of a nine kilometre dual carriageway along the Islamabad Expressway service road. The project will replace the existing dilapidated service road and run from Faizabad to the Gulberg Greens stop.
The CDA also plans to develop a major commercial corridor along the route to generate revenue. The authority received another bid 19 percent below the estimated cost for the overhauling and beautification of Srinagar Highway, a project valued at nearly Rs. 2 billion.
Similarly, bids for the Murree Road, Jinnah Avenue and Islamabad Expressway rehabilitation projects came in 25 percent, 18 percent and 19 percent below their respective estimated costs.
CDA officials welcomed the competitive bidding process and said the authority would ensure contractors complete the projects according to the approved scope of work without seeking post bid revisions.
