Islamabad property dealers have compared the prolonged construction of the Park Road Underpass with the construction of Rome, urging residents to remain patient as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) continues work on the delayed project.
In a blog post titled “ Park Road Underpass Completion Delay — Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day ,” Margalla Enclave property dealers IBSAM Associates acknowledged the frustration being faced by residents and commuters because of the ongoing construction.
The company apologized for the traffic diversions, congestion, dust and longer travel times, but argued that major infrastructure projects take time and that the eventual benefits of the underpass should also be considered.
The comparison, however, is difficult to miss.
Rome is traditionally associated with one of history’s greatest cities, built and developed over centuries. The project being discussed is a relatively small underpass on Park Road, yet its completion has stretched well beyond the deadlines announced by the CDA.
The authority had most recently promised to complete and open the Margalla Enclave underpass by July 30, 2026. That deadline passed without the underpass opening, while construction work and traffic diversions continued.
The project has also faced criticism because Park Road had already undergone rehabilitation and widening work before sections were disrupted again for the underpass.
For commuters, the prolonged work has meant congestion, diversions, dust and longer journeys on a road used daily by thousands of Islamabad residents.
