The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has proposed holding a mock fire drill at Parliament House on September 3 to test emergency response arrangements at the country’s parliamentary complex.
According to the proposal, the drill is scheduled for 11 a.m. The CDA has sent a formal letter to the administrations of the National Assembly and Senate, seeking their consent to conduct the exercise at Parliament House.
The proposed drill comes as the CDA has stepped up enforcement of fire and life safety standards across Islamabad, with a focus on improving emergency preparedness and protecting lives.
As part of the enforcement drive, the CDA has sealed the Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat, State Life Building, and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Building in Blue Area over non-compliance with fire safety observations issued by its Fire and Emergency Services Directorate.
CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf has directed relevant departments to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward serious fire safety violations and ensure compliance with safety standards.
The CDA’s Fire and Emergency Services Directorate has also been inspecting buildings to identify shortcomings related to fire prevention, emergency exits, firefighting arrangements, evacuation preparedness, and other life safety measures.
The authority has called for continued monitoring of fire safety compliance and corrective action where deficiencies are identified, with the aim of strengthening prevention and emergency preparedness across Islamabad.
