The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has intensified fire-safety inspections across Islamabad following the recent fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). The CDA sealed the Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat, State Life Building and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) building after inspectors found violations of fire-safety regulations. The authority also fined CDA Hospital and Polyclinic Hospital Rs. 500,000 each for failing to correct fire-safety deficiencies despite multiple notices.

The CDA sealed the Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat, State Life Building and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) building after inspectors found violations of fire-safety regulations. The authority also fined CDA Hospital and Polyclinic Hospital Rs. 500,000 each for failing to correct fire-safety deficiencies despite multiple notices.

At Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat, inspectors found too few fire extinguishers and inadequate emergency exits and evacuation routes. The administration failed to address the violations despite receiving several notices, prompting the CDA to seal the building.

Inspectors also found deficiencies in fire-detection and alarm systems, firefighting equipment, emergency lighting, exit signage and evacuation routes at the two hospitals.

The CDA Fire Service ordered both hospitals to correct the deficiencies and submit compliance reports. The administrations must pay their fines within seven days. The CDA said it would take further legal action against buildings that continue to violate fire-safety regulations.
