The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad has ordered the closure of weekly markets in H-9, G-6 and G-10 over violations of fire safety laws and failure to implement required safety measures.

The decision was taken with the approval of the competent authority following the PIMS tragedy and efforts to ensure compliance with fire safety rules in Islamabad.

According to the notification, the H-9, G-6 and G-10 weekly markets will remain completely closed on September 1, 2, 4 and 6.

For public convenience, fruit and vegetable sellers at the H-9 market were allowed to operate on September 1, subject to strict compliance with fire safety conditions.

The MCI has directed the relevant officers and market administrations to ensure strict compliance with all instructions.

It warned that stallholders found violating the orders will face strict legal action without discrimination.
