Xiaomi is preparing to launch the Redmi Note 17 series in Malaysia on August 18, and the global lineup will introduce a new top-end model called the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max.
The Pro Max will sit above the regular Redmi Note 17 and Note 17 Pro, marking the first time Xiaomi has used the Pro Max name in the Redmi Note lineup.
Xiaomi has confirmed that the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max will pack a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of up to 10,000mAh.
Silicon-carbon technology allows smartphone makers to fit more battery capacity into a relatively compact space compared with conventional battery designs.
The 10,000mAh capacity would make it the largest battery ever fitted to a Redmi Note smartphone.
A global version of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max has also appeared on Geekbench ahead of the launch.
The device carries the model number 2609FRA74G and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset. The processor has four performance cores running at up to 2.61GHz and four efficiency cores clocked at up to 2.02GHz.
The tested phone had 8GB of RAM and was running Android 16. It scored 924 points in Geekbench’s single-core test and 2,923 points in the multi-core test.
The Redmi Note 17 has already launched in China with a 7-inch OLED display, Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset, and an 8,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging.
It also features a 50MP main camera and an IP65 rating for protection against dust and water splashes.
The Chinese Redmi Note 17 Pro steps up to a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset, and a larger 9,000mAh battery.
Its cameras include a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP depth camera, while the phone carries a tougher IP69K rating.
The Malaysian models could differ from their Chinese counterparts, so their final specifications will only become clear at the launch.
There is currently no Redmi Note 17 Pro Max sold as part of the Chinese lineup, making the Malaysian launch the first official appearance of this new variant.
Xiaomi is expected to reveal the remaining specifications, including its cameras, RAM and storage configurations, charging capabilities, and pricing, when the Redmi Note 17 series launches in Malaysia on August 18.
