Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the Sindh government will fully open the Malir Expressway, also known as Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway, for public traffic by the end of May.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, the senior Sindh minister said the project would directly connect the expressway with the M-9 Motorway, significantly improving traffic flow for people entering and leaving the city.
He said the opening of the corridor would help reduce travel time for commuters by up to an hour and described the project as a major development for Karachi’s transport infrastructure.
The 39 kilometre high speed corridor has already been opened in phases, while the remaining sections are expected to become fully operational later this month. According to officials, the project had reached more than 88 percent completion earlier this year.
Sharjeel Inam Memon also announced that another road project was being developed to connect Karachi Port with Taj Haider Bridge. He said the groundbreaking ceremony for the new road was expected to take place around the same time as the completion of Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway.
The minister added that work on bridges, underpasses, roads, and other infrastructure projects was continuing across Karachi under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and local government departments. He said the Sindh government’s priority was to complete major infrastructure projects in Karachi as quickly as possible.
