Samsung unveiled its AI-powered smart glasses during its Unpacked event earlier this month. The glasses run on Android XR and will include a privacy feature designed to make camera use visible to people nearby.
Whenever the camera is active for taking photos, recording videos, or making video calls through apps such as Google Meet, an LED indicator on the glasses will automatically turn on.
The indicator will be visible to both the person wearing the glasses and people around them, making it clear when the camera is recording or being used.
Samsung has also added protection against attempts to hide the indicator. If a user covers the LED with a sticker or another object, the glasses will detect the obstruction and disable the camera.
Meta recently introduced a similar measure for its own smart glasses.
The feature should make secret recording more difficult, although it remains unclear whether the indicator will be enough to address broader privacy concerns surrounding smart glasses.
Samsung has not yet announced when its AI smart glasses will become available for purchase.
