Samsung is reportedly accepting final orders for its LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X memory chips as it prepares to shift production toward newer LPDDR5 memory.
According to reports from sources familiar with the DRAM market, Samsung is winding down the older memory standard as demand moves toward newer technologies.
Samsung is expected to continue manufacturing LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X modules throughout 2026 to fulfill remaining customer orders.
Once existing commitments are completed, the older memory products are expected to be phased out.
After production ends, Samsung is expected to convert current manufacturing lines to LPDDR5 production during the first quarter of 2027.
The move would align the company with growing industry demand for newer DRAM products.
The reported shift comes as memory chip prices continue to rise during the current semiconductor upcycle.
By focusing on LPDDR5, Samsung could strengthen revenue opportunities tied to higher-value memory products.
The transition may also benefit smartphone buyers. Once LPDDR4 production stops, Samsung could use LPDDR5 memory in more entry-level and mid-range devices.
LPDDR5 memory offers speeds around 50% faster than LPDDR4, which could improve performance in lower-cost smartphones.
