The Punjab School Education Department, in collaboration with the Buildings Department, has sealed 167 private schools and academies across the province after their buildings were declared structurally unsafe in the aftermath of the deadly roof collapse at a tuition center in Lahore’s Kahna area.

The action follows a province-wide inspection launched after the incident to assess the structural safety of private educational institutions, particularly those with aging infrastructure or water seepage ahead of the monsoon season.

According to official sources, authorities identified 167 educational institutions as posing a serious safety risk and ordered their immediate closure. Officials said the buildings have been declared unsafe for occupancy due to the possibility of structural failure during heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, 744 private schools and academies with comparatively minor structural defects or leaking roofs have been issued red notices, directing them to complete all repair and rehabilitation work before schools reopen after the summer vacations.

Authorities warned that institutions failing to begin repair work during the current month will also face sealing. Officials added that schools sealed over safety concerns will only be allowed to reopen after the required repairs or reconstruction have been completed and certified by the relevant authorities.
