The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday rejected a request seeking suspension of the Punjab government’s notification announcing nearly three months of summer vacations for educational institutions across the province.

Justice Khalid Ishaq heard a petition filed by the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation challenging the summer vacation schedule announced by the Punjab government from May 22 to August 23.

During the hearing, the federation’s counsel requested the court to suspend the notification until a final decision on the petition. However, the judge declined to grant interim relief and issued notices to the relevant authorities, directing them to submit replies within two weeks.

In the petition, the federation argued that the 90-day closure would negatively affect academic continuity and increase dropout risks among students.

The petition further stated that prolonged vacations could disrupt studies and examination schedules, increase students’ screen time, and weaken engagement with academic activities. The federation also argued that extended school closures create operational and financial difficulties for private educational institutions.
