The Punjab government has expanded the Green School Program across the province, bringing more than 26,000 schools under its scope to promote environmental sustainability.
According to Silwat Saeed, over 7.6 million students and teachers have been registered under the initiative, marking a major step towards embedding environmental awareness in the education system.
Officials said environmental education has now been integrated into the curriculum, while practical measures for air, water, and energy conservation have also been implemented in schools.
As a result, eco-friendly activities are increasing across educational institutions.
The program aims to train students in adopting environmentally responsible lifestyles. Authorities have also introduced a strict 100-point monitoring system, under which schools will receive a five-star certification based on performance.
More than 80% of public schools have already joined the initiative, while participation from private institutions is also growing. Special awareness sessions will be held in major cities, along with dedicated training programs for teachers.
Officials added that international organizations are also joining the Green School Program, further strengthening efforts to promote a sustainable and environmentally conscious future in Punjab.
