Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major expansion of Punjab’s Green Electric Bus initiative, with hundreds of additional buses set to join the province’s public transportation network over the coming years.

As part of the expansion, the Green Electric Bus service has now been launched in Chiniot, Sialkot, Okara, Murree and Layyah, extending the eco-friendly public transportation system to five more districts.

Speaking at the launch ceremony in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz said around 1,100 electric buses would be operating in cities across Punjab by August 15.

She said 1,500 electric buses would arrive this year, increasing the provincial fleet to 3,000 buses over the next three years.

The chief minister added that the Punjab government aims to further expand the project to 5,000 electric buses within the next five years.
