Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been invited to participate in the Nobel Sustainability Trust (NST) 2026 Sustainability Summit and Awards Ceremony, scheduled to be held on November 30 at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.
NST is an independent foundation established in Switzerland by members of the Nobel family. In its communication to the Chief Minister, the organization highlighted Punjab’s work in climate resilience, environmental protection, forestry, wildlife conservation, air quality management, and the use of technology and data in environmental governance.
The invitation will provide Punjab with an opportunity to take part in an international dialogue involving government representatives, scientists, academics, international institutions, businesses, technology experts, and members of the global sustainability community.
Under CM Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, Punjab has expanded the use of technology, environmental data, digital monitoring, and modern enforcement systems to address air pollution and smog.
These systems are being used to monitor air quality, identify major sources of emissions, assess environmental risks, and support timely responses when pollution levels worsen. The province has also used technology-enabled systems to improve coordination among relevant departments and strengthen environmental awareness.
According to the communication, Punjab’s shift toward data-driven and technology-enabled governance was highlighted by the NST Chairman as a benchmark for international environmental reform.
Punjab’s approach combines technology with climate action, air quality management, forest conservation, wildlife protection, biodiversity preservation, and environmental monitoring.
Air pollution and smog remain major environmental and public policy challenges across the region. Punjab has sought to strengthen its response through environmental monitoring, data analysis, digital systems, and coordinated measures aimed at improving understanding of pollution conditions and supporting policy decisions.
The province’s experience, along with that of other regions facing similar problems, could contribute to broader international discussions on how technology, policy, scientific knowledge, and regional cooperation can be used to improve air quality and strengthen long-term climate resilience.
The NST Award Gala and Summit 2026 will bring together world leaders, members of the Nobel family, scientists, sustainability experts, policymakers, international organizations, business leaders, philanthropists, and innovators.
The event will provide a platform for discussions on climate action, environmental sustainability, technological innovation, conservation, biodiversity, air quality management, and sustainable development.
CM Maryam Nawaz’s participation would also provide Punjab with an opportunity to present its experience in using technology and innovation to improve climate resilience, manage smog, strengthen air quality management, restore forests, protect wildlife, and modernize environmental governance.
The invitation is also part of NST’s broader effort to bring together governments, scientists, businesses, international institutions, and other stakeholders to exchange experiences and explore practical solutions to sustainability challenges.
Punjab’s participation in the summit would allow the province to share its evolving approach to technology-supported climate and environmental governance with the wider international sustainability community.
