The Punjab Food Authority launched a fresh operation against food adulteration in Lahore, sealing three businesses, arresting two people, and fining six food outlets a total of Rs. 195,000.

According to officials, enforcement teams inspected 10 units during the crackdown and took action against multiple violations linked to unhygienic practices, unlicensed production, and the supply of unsafe food items.

During the raids, authorities also seized a supplier vehicle that was allegedly transporting 800 kilograms of used ghee for distribution. In addition, officials destroyed 50 kilograms of china salt and 40 liters of low-quality soda water.

Punjab Food Authority Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid said the confiscated vehicle was carrying used oil and ghee in a hidden manner and the supplier failed to present the required record and documentation.

He added that a soda water plant was shut down after its samples were found unfit, with officials saying chemicals had been used without proper formulation. A Sajji restaurant was also sealed over poor hygiene conditions, while another unit was closed for producing and packaging food items without a valid license.

Javaid said the authority would continue taking strict action against those endangering public health through adulterated food. He said eliminating the adulteration mafia at every level remains one of the authority’s main priorities.
