The Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department has launched a province wide verification drive to identify and remove unauthorized occupants from hostels at public sector medical colleges and teaching hospitals. Under a directive issued on August 22, institutions have been ordered to ensure that hostel rooms are occupied only by students and staff with valid allotment orders. Administrations have been instructed to verify residents against hostel allotment records, student identity cards, enrollment documents and room registers.

Officials have also directed institutions to remove occupants who cannot establish their entitlement to government accommodation.

The verification began on Sunday with room to room inspections at several institutions, particularly in Lahore. Similar checks are being conducted or planned in other cities, including Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Dera Ghazi Khan.

The department has ordered institutions to submit compliance reports by noon on Monday, while the verification process is expected to continue until all hostel residents are checked.

Officials said the drive aims to ensure that limited government hostel accommodation remains available only to eligible students and employees. They stressed that residents are being assessed on the basis of valid allotment and institutional affiliation, regardless of nationality or background.
