Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced summer vacations for schools across the province amid rising temperatures and heatwave concerns.
According to the minister, summer holidays in Punjab schools will begin from Friday, May 22, while educational institutions will reopen on Monday, August 24.
The announcement comes as a relief for students and teachers as several parts of the country continue to experience intense heat, with temperatures expected to remain high in the coming weeks.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had earlier warned of above-normal temperatures and rainfall across the province during May, June, and July.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also cautioned that heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding, and windstorms could affect multiple regions in the coming months.
According to the weather department, rising temperatures may also trigger dust storms, strong winds, and hailstorms that could impact seasonal crops, vegetables, and orchards.
Last year, the Punjab government had announced summer vacations from May 28 to August 14. However, holidays for public and private schools were later extended until August 31 due to extreme weather conditions across the province.
