Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that 1,600 kilometers of railway tracks across Punjab will be modernized under a major railway upgradation project aimed at improving connectivity and transport infrastructure in the province.
She said more than 80 million citizens are expected to benefit from the initiative.

The remarks were made during a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi on Monday, where both leaders reviewed progress on the upgradation of eight key railway routes in Punjab.
The meeting also included detailed discussions on the proposed Lahore-Rawalpindi fast train project, which is considered one of the province’s major transport initiatives.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said the railway routes are being upgraded under the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz after studying some of the world’s best railway systems.
She stated that the upgraded routes would help connect different regions of Punjab and strengthen transportation links across the province.
According to officials, the project includes the upgradation of Shahdara to Narowal, Narowal to Sialkot, Lala Musa, Malikwal, and Sargodha railway routes.

The plan also covers Faisalabad to Chak Jhumra and Shaheenabad, as well as Shorkot and Jhang railway sections.
Other cities and areas included in the railway modernisation project are Sheikhupura, Jaranwala, Raiwind, Pakpattan, Lodhran, Kot Addu, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
