The Punjab government has announced that it will extend its electric bike (e-bike) scheme to government employees after completing the initial phase for students.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz as part of the province’s broader initiative to promote environmentally friendly transportation.

Under the scheme, the government will initially distribute 100,000 e-bikes to students through an interest free installment plan. After the student phase is completed, government employees will also become eligible to obtain e-bikes under the same program.

The Punjab government will provide a subsidy of Rs. 70,000 for each e-bike under the scheme. Beneficiaries will be able to purchase the vehicles through an interest free installment plan, with estimated monthly payments of Rs. 2,100.

The government says the initiative aims to make electric vehicles more affordable, reduce transportation costs, and encourage the use of clean energy across the province. The e-bike scheme is part of Punjab’s wider green transport strategy, which also includes the expansion of electric buses, e-taxis, and other environmentally friendly public transport projects.
