Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman on Tuesday presented the provincial budget for fiscal year 2026-27, proposing an allocation of Rs. 750.1 billion for the education sector.
The budget was unveiled in the Punjab Assembly after receiving approval from the provincial cabinet. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, provincial ministers and members of the provincial assembly attended the session.
According to the budget documents, the Punjab government has allocated Rs. 22 billion for the Honhaar Scholarship Program and Rs. 15.69 billion for the Laptop Program.
The budget also earmarks Rs. 33 billion for STEAM Labs and Rs. 55 billion for the Punjab Education Foundation. In addition, Rs. 6.9 billion has been allocated for IT labs in colleges, while Rs. 7.8 billion has been set aside for new colleges and campuses and sub-campuses.
The education allocation is part of the Punjab government’s proposed budget of Rs. 5.903 trillion for fiscal year 2026-27. According to the budget speech, the overall provincial budget is 10.7 percent higher than the current fiscal year’s budget.
