The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has issued new guidelines for aesthetic clinics, spas, beauty salons, beauty parlors and providers of cosmetic and plastic surgery services across the province.
The guidelines aim to ensure that customers receive proper receipts and clear information about the Punjab sales tax charged on applicable services. According to the PRA spokesperson, the province applies a 5% sales tax to specified services offered by beauty parlors, salons, cosmetic and plastic surgery providers, as well as certain skin and laser treatments.
The authority has directed relevant service providers to display the guidelines at their cash counters and inform customers about the applicable tax when they purchase services. The PRA has advised customers to check their bills and verify the amount of Punjab sales tax included with the service charges.
The authority has also warned businesses against collecting any amount from customers beyond the applicable tax and service charges permitted under the law. The PRA has prohibited businesses from issuing temporary or handwritten receipts and instructed them to provide proper digital receipts to customers.
Customers can report businesses that refuse card or digital payments through the PRA Facilitation App or the authority’s social media platforms. The PRA said its measures seek to improve transparency in the collection of sales tax and protect customers from improper charges.
