Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced that students seeking admission to medical and dental colleges abroad will now be required to qualify for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) and obtain PMDC registration before leaving Pakistan. The decision was discussed during a meeting of the PMDC Sub Committee on Accreditation of Medical and Dental Colleges and Postgraduate Qualifications, held as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening medical education standards in the country.

According to PMDC, students must also ensure that their selected foreign institution is included in the council’s list of recognized medical institutions.

The council further stated that foreign medical institutions should either be accredited by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) or listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.

PMDC said students completing foreign medical qualifications will also be required to pass the National Registration Examination in order to obtain registration in Pakistan.

The council added that the new measures are intended to protect the academic and professional future of Pakistani medical students and ensure compliance with national and international education standards.
