The Punjab government has expanded its flagship Kissan Card program, issuing cards to more than 832,000 farmers across the province to strengthen agricultural financing and improve access to farming inputs.
Farmers have collectively used agricultural loans worth Rs25.4 billion through the initiative, while they purchased inputs worth over Rs100 billion during the wheat cultivation season.
Under the program, the government also provided Rs90 billion for the Kharif crop season to support timely access to seeds, fertilizer, and other essentials.
Officials reported strong financial performance under the scheme, with a recovery rate of 86% from 538,000 farmers. So far, farmers have repaid Rs57 billion out of a recoverable amount of Rs67 billion, reflecting what the government described as strong financial discipline within the farming community.
Under the scheme’s broader rollout, 300,000 farmers have already accessed agricultural inputs worth Rs30 billion.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the Kissan Card initiative is transforming the agricultural sector by reducing reliance on middlemen and improving farmers’ financial independence.
She said the government aims to ensure dignity, stability, and economic empowerment for farmers across Punjab.
She also praised farmers for their timely loan repayments and said the administration remains committed to strengthening agricultural productivity through targeted financial support.
