Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said he wants to become the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) if his political party wins the upcoming elections.
Addressing a public rally in Muzaffarabad, Nawaz Sharif said AJK was as important to him as Punjab and called it his “second home.”
He expressed a desire to dedicate himself to the region’s development.
Nawaz announced several development commitments, including a 10x increase in the AJK budget, construction of a modern motorway from Mansehra to Muzaffarabad and Mirpur, deployment of 15 mobile hospitals, and introduction of 10 Green Line buses for Muzaffarabad.
Nawaz Sharif also said that if he did not become the AJK prime minister, he would visit the region every three months to monitor development projects and review progress with the local leadership.
He also questioned why modern highways had not been built in AJK despite Pakistan’s expanding motorway network.
He ordered Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz to prepare a special development package for Azad Kashmir to help locals benefit from development initiatives similar to those being implemented in Punjab.
