The National Database and Registration Authority has introduced a major change in the arms license renewal system, allowing licenses to remain valid for a full five years from the date of issuance or last renewal.

According to a spokesperson, the new system has been implemented on the directives of the Ministry of Interior, Pakistan, to facilitate citizens and ensure they can fully benefit from the five-year validity period.

Under the revised policy, arms licences will now expire exactly five years after their issuance or renewal date.

Previously, all federally issued licences expired on December 31 each year, forcing citizens to renew them regardless of their original issuance date.

Officials said the old system prevented licence holders from utilising the complete validity period, causing inconvenience and unnecessary renewals.

The new mechanism, supported by fully digitizing the arms licensing system, will make the process easier, reduce hassle, and improve efficiency for citizens.

Authorities added that this reform will make the system more transparent, user-friendly, and aligned with modern digital governance practices.
