Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi has formed an 11-member Fire and Safety Committee to strengthen emergency preparedness and ensure a prompt response to fire incidents and other emergencies.
The committee has been formed on the directives of the Jinnah Hospital director and will remain operational around the clock.
Joint Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital Dr. Salman said a formal notification regarding the formation of the committee would be issued today.
The committee will be headed by the hospital’s assistant director. Employees residing within the hospital premises have been given priority for inclusion so that an immediate response can be ensured in case of an emergency.
According to the administration, the committee will remain active on a permanent basis and will coordinate the hospital’s response to fire incidents and other unforeseen situations.
The safety measures were taken following the fire at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad, where a blaze broke out in the nursery on August 26 and resulted in the deaths of 14 newborn babies.
