The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has suspected the involvement of residents and Chinese nationals in the illegal hunting and killing of wildlife through snares in protected forest areas of Islamabad.

The suspicion emerged after IWMB officials discovered a barking deer dead in a trap in the forest area of E-7. Following the incident, the board registered a case at Kohsar Police Station under the Islamabad Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management Act 2024.

According to the FIR, wildlife guards visited the area after receiving complaints and found multiple illegally installed traps in the forest. During the inspection, officials discovered that a barking deer had died after getting caught in a snare.

The FIR stated that similar incidents had occurred in the past, with several wild boars and monkeys also dying after being trapped in snares. Complaints regarding those incidents had previously been submitted to the police.

“It is suspected that some local people and Chinese nationals residing in the area are involved in the illegal act,” the FIR stated.

The IWMB termed the incidents a clear violation of wildlife protection laws and requested full cooperation from police to take strict legal action against those responsible.

Wildlife teams remain present in the area as authorities continue investigations into the illegal hunting activities in Islamabad’s protected forests.
